A series of five exciting free fashion displays will be popping up around the city throughout October, creating a buzz in the lead up to and during Melbourne Fashion Week.
Presented by Creative Victoria, Fashion Capsules comprises a captivating series of five exhibition installations dispersed throughout the city. Spanning from Collins Square to the Queen Victoria Markets, each of these capsules serves as a tribute to some of the nation’s most inventive and artistic talents within the realms of fashion design, artistry, styling, and beyond.
Fashion Capsule 1 – Collins Square
Monday 2 October – Friday 27 October | 8am to 5pm weekdays, 727 Collins Street.
Showcasing the creations of Ange Jeffery, Aphids, Emma Davis, Keedan Rigney, Melanie Katsalidis, Michelle Irwin, Millinery Jill, and Michelle Mantsio.
Collins Square is poised to be the stage for an exhibition focused on the theme “Big Things,” a concept of profound cultural significance in Australia. This capsule endeavor is designed to offer local artists, designers, and artisans a grand platform to exhibit their boundless creativity and remarkable talents.
Fashion Capsule 2 – Queen Victoria Market
Sunday 1 October – Sunday 29 October, String Bean Alley.
Highlighting the creative contributions of Fernanda Covarrubias, Haus Of Dizzy, Hokum, Josh Deane, Lisa Hughes Millinery, NIXI KILLICK, Twoobs, and Vow Studio.
This capsule pays homage to the venerable marketplace, a timeless nucleus of community and self-expression. Historically, it has been a space where emerging artisans can experiment and engage directly with their patrons, often serving as the launching pad for some of Australia’s most prominent fashion figures.
Fashion Capsule 3 – Rialto
Sunday 1 October – Sunday 29 October, 525 Collins Street.
Presenting the work of Anna Cordell, ERIK-YVON, INJURY, Kara Baker Couture, Lucinda Babi, Saint Stella M, SILVANA TEDESCO, and Van Der Kooij.
Focused on experimentation and individualization, it offers a glimpse into the world of creators who ethically and purposefully design and craft unique items. This provides an opportunity for a closer examination of singular creations that vividly exemplify fashion’s capacity for constant evolution and innovation.

Uncover the compelling narratives and artistic innovation of Indigenous Australia within the realms of fashion and contemporary art forms. This capsule pays tribute to the rich history and enduring vitality of Yarrenyty Arltere artists, particularly the women of the Larapinta Town Camp in Alice Springs. Explore a thoughtfully curated selection of distinct pieces and enduring treasures that eloquently convey ancient stories from a flourishing community wholeheartedly embracing creativity, innovation, and diversity.
Fashion Capsule 5 – Collins Place
Sunday 1 October – Sunday 29 October, 45 Collins Street.
In commemoration of the Australian Ballet’s 60th anniversary take the opportunity to peer into the company’s treasure trove of costumes at the Collins place forecourt. See examples of the boundless creativity, artistic expression, and exceptional talent that have shaped fifteen exquisite tutus, meticulously chosen by Artistic Director David Hallberg. This exhibition unfolds a nearly six-decade journey through remarkable performances, encompassing classics like Don Quixote (Nureyev) from 1970, Coppelia in 1979, The Nutcracker in 1992, Sleeping Beauty in 2015, and many more.
