Melbourne’s upcoming Metro Tunnel stations are about to become more than just transportation hubs – they’re set to become showcases of artistic brilliance, further solidifying our city’s status as the nation’s cultural capital.
Revealed are the stunning permanent works slated for installation at each of the five new underground stations. From an awe-inspiring 8-meter-high etched glass landscape celebrating Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung women at State Library Station to an intriguing abstract textured tile masterpiece at Parkville Station, each piece promises to captivate and inspire commuters.
Leading the charge are some of Australia’s most renowned artists, carefully selected by a panel of experts from Victoria’s creative industries:
- Arden Station – Abdul Abdullah
- Parkville Station – Patricia Piccinini
- State Library Station – Danie Mellor
- Anzac Station – Raafat Ishak
- Line-wide artwork – Maree Clarke
Collaborating closely with station architects, these artists are weaving their creations seamlessly into the fabric of each station’s design. Whether gracing the entrances above ground or nestled within the subterranean depths, these artworks will enhance the commuter experience and leave a lasting impression on all who pass through.
Keep an eye out as the Arden and Parkville Station artworks take center stage in early 2024, paving the way for a grand unveiling of all installations when the Metro Tunnel doors open wide in 2025.
