The Reclink Community Cup is set to kick off once again, bringing together the vibrant Melbourne music scene and the spirited community radio industry for a day of grassroots football and live music.
Scheduled for June 16 at Victoria Park in Abbotsford, this iconic event, now in its 31st year, promises to be a celebration for all, while raising vital funds to support Reclink Australia’s mission of providing sport and recreation programs for communities facing disadvantage to improve their physical health, mental health and social connections.
The Reclink Community Cup has become a beloved fixture on the Melbourne music calendar. Since its inception, the event has garnered support from renowned local music industry personalities such as Paul Kelly, Tim Rogers and Dan Sultan, who have graciously lent their time and talent to champion this inaugural event.
The “Comm Cup” is a reminder of what makes our Australian camaraderie unique and how it naturally brings together the collective, no matter the situation of individuals in the community
The heart of the event lies in the friendly rivalry between the Rockdogs (musicians) and the Megahertz (Triple R 102.7FM & PBS 106.7FM), as they vie for footy supremacy in a match brimming with passion and intensity. Over the years, the Community Cup has evolved into much more than a football match; it’s a testament to the power of community spirit and solidarity.
With humble beginnings in 1993, the Melbourne event now attracts over 10,000 attendees annually and raises more than $200,000 for Reclink Australia, demonstrating the unwavering support and commitment of the community towards uplifting those in need.
For those eager to be part of this unforgettable experience and have a laugh at the shenanigans that take place on the field, as well as contribute to Reclink’s vital work, tickets for the Community Cup go on sale May 2nd 2024 through Oztix or pre-register for tickets here.
The theme for this year’s event is “Insufficient Funds” by Eddy Current Suppression Ring. In a time when everyone is feeling the pinch, we can still come together as a community and help those who are doing it especially tough.
Every ticket sold will help raise valuable funds needed to support Reclink Australia’s sport and recreation programs. For more information about Reclink Australia and its initiatives, please visitwww.reclink.org
