What is being touted as the biggest indoor water park in the Southern Hemisphere has finally been approved by the government, ending five years of uncertainty over whether the development would go ahead.

Dingley SurfnPlay Aquatic Park will be built at Old Dandenong Road, Dingley Village, in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs,
The initial plans for the development were submitted to Kingston City Council in March 2019 by developer Pellicano. The plans included slides powered by water jets, various tunnel rides, an aquarium and a “lazy river”. New additions to the proposal were made in 2020 that included a beach pool and state-of-the-art ave machine,

This would be the second surf wave ride in Melbourne – the first is UrbanSurf in Tullamarine.
The Herald Sun reports the $171 million development could be open for business as soon as 2027.

The development has been designed by Melbourne architects Peddle Thorpe (they created the Melbourne Aquarium and the Melbourne Sports and Aquatics Centre) and would feature a 18,200 square metre interior space and a further 20,000 square metres outdoors.
