The transformed Fawkner Leisure Centre is set to reopen to the public on Sunday 8 December, following a $36.8 million redevelopment.
Just in time for the summer season, the revamped facility promises to be a hub for fitness and well-being, offering more opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to lead an active lifestyle.
Designed with sustainability and accessibility in mind, the centre features state-of-the-art amenities including an 8-lane, 50m outdoor heated pool, a family water play pool, a 6-lane, 25m indoor heated pool, and a dedicated learn-to-swim area. Visitors can also unwind in the new sauna, steam room, and spa, perfect for relaxation after a workout.
Fitness enthusiasts will enjoy new multi-purpose spaces for group fitness and expanded gym facilities with premium equipment, including a designated stretch area. The centre’s all-electric design and environmentally sustainable features align with Merri-bek City Council’s zero-carbon objectives.
Built in the 1960s, the original pools were at the end of their serviceable life, making this redevelopment a crucial investment for the community. Before the official opening, locals can register for a community celebration event on Saturday 7 December to explore the new facilities.
