Melbourne’s summer is heating up with the announcement of this year’s headliner for the Victoria’s Pride Street Party—Chela et Cetera, the Filipino/Australian artist set to make waves with her debut performance under her new moniker.
Presented by Midsumma and the Victorian State Government, this much-loved event will once again transform the Gertrude and Smith Street precinct into a kaleidoscope of art, music, and culture.
The Pride Street Party marks the grand finale of Midsumma’s three-week summer festival, a celebration of LGBTQIA+ pride and solidarity. This year’s lineup is packed with exceptional talent, ensuring a day of unforgettable entertainment.
Taking centre stage on Sunday 9 February Chela et Cetera will unveil new music at this vibrant celebration of LGBTQIA+ communities. Chela et Cetera’s artistic journey is nothing short of extraordinary. Beginning her career in a femme punk-pop band during her teens, she gained early acclaim with her self-released single Plastic Gun. This performance at Victoria’s Pride promises to be a defining moment, ushering in an exciting new chapter for the multi-talented artist.
Joining Chela et Cetera is boundary-pushing pop-rock sensation Bec Sandridge, whose electrifying stage presence never fails to captivate audiences. Adding depth to the program, Leroy Macqueen brings his alt-country charisma and brooding punk energy, while Thndo x NHT All Stars Band will deliver soulful, powerful performances that have earned her the title of Australia’s “First Lady of Soul and R&B.”
From the north, Brisbane’s disco-dance pop powerhouses Dizzy Days will keep spirits high, while Melbourne’s diva extraordinaire Tanzer blends operatic vocals with European disco vibes for an unforgettable set. Rising star Mieke Louise, representing the Victoria’s Pride Regional Activation Program, adds a fresh perspective, championing LGBTQIA+ youth and the power of self-discovery through her music.
Dance enthusiasts can look forward to an all-day groove courtesy of the festival’s stellar DJ lineup. Notable names include DJ Tinika, who will close out the event with bass-heavy, percussive sounds that draw inspiration from the Afro Diaspora, creating an atmosphere that’s as uplifting as it is immersive.
The festivities extend beyond the stages, with the Pride Windows program returning to shopfronts across the precinct.
This year’s visual arts showcase highlights local talent and queer creativity, featuring stars like RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under alum Aubrey Haive and the mischievous Tilly Capulet, alongside Melbourne’s beloved singing mermaid, Rosie Roulette.
Meanwhile, the Yarra Peel St Park Projection program offers a contemplative counterpoint with Cassie Sullivan’s stunning works exploring intergenerational experiences and ancestral memories.
Attendees can also dive into a wealth of interactive activities, community stalls, and roving performances, with plenty to engage families and individuals alike. Local traders will provide delicious food and drinks, rounding out a day that celebrates both connection and creativity.
With more artists and surprises to be revealed, Victoria’s Pride Street Party promises to be a highlight of the summer calendar. For the latest updates and full event details, visit the Victoria’s Pride web page at www.midsumma.org.au/vicpride.
