The global morning dance movement Daybreaker is officially landing in Melbourne, kicking off its first of three local sunrise events at Abbotsford Convent on Saturday 7 February.
Running from 8am to 10am inside the Convent’s Oratory, the alcohol-free event promises music, movement and connection before most people have even had breakfast. Tickets are on sale now from $65 and include snacks and beverages.
Melbourne’s debut event introduces Daybreaker’s signature three-part morning ritual. The experience begins with guided natural movement led by co-host Simba, easing bodies awake and setting the tone for the morning. From there, DJ Katie Hill takes over with an energetic dance set, complete with a few surprises along the way. The session wraps up with a collective breath and sound experience guided by Eliza Hilmer from Feel Good Flows, offering a grounding close before the day continues.
Daybreaker’s Australian launch is being led by three Melbourne-based wellbeing entrepreneurs who first connected at a Daybreaker event in New York. Hayley Rose brings experience building local wellbeing companies, Bryony Cole works in relationships and intimacy, and Andy Lee is a founder and investor focused on emotional health and wellbeing.
Daybreaker co-founder Radha Agrawal says “Daybreaker has always been a global movement built around joy, music and genuine connection. Australia has been in our heart for years, and we couldn’t imagine a better city to begin with than Melbourne, a place rich in culture and community… Melbourne already has that heartbeat.”
Hayley Rose says “Community is one of the most overlooked pieces of modern health infrastructure and Daybreaker is on a mission to bring more joy and belonging through community to the world.”
Bryony Cole adds “As Melbourne experienced the longest lockdown in the world, it feels extra special to bring Daybreaker to Melbourne.”
Founded in New York in 2013, Daybreaker now runs events in 66 cities worldwide. More Melbourne dates are planned, with Sydney and Brisbane to follow. For more information visit daybreaker.com.
