A popular community event in Melbourne’s south east is set to return later this month, with Keysborough’s Big Picnic bringing a day of free family activities to Frederick Wachter Reserve.
Organised by Greater Dandenong City Council, the event will take place on Sunday 29 March and is expected to draw local families for a relaxed day of entertainment, food and outdoor fun.
Greater Dandenong Mayor Sophie Tan said this year’s program has been expanded to include more activities across the park.
“Keysborough’s Big Picnic is the perfect way to connect with family and friends while you take in the talented performers, animal attractions and delicious food on offer,” the Mayor said.
“You can also connect with us by taking part in our engagement activities or asking our staff questions about the services we offer at Council.
“Kids will love the Easter egg hunt and pet competition. They are always so much fun.”
One of the most anticipated parts of the day is the free Easter egg hunt, sponsored by Parkmore Shopping Centre. The hunt will run in four sessions across the afternoon at 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm, with places available on a first come basis.
A live entertainment program will also run on the main stage, featuring performances from local dance schools alongside artists including Tam I Am and Little Feet.
Animal lovers will have plenty to see as well, with a pet competition sponsored by Bendigo Community Bank Dingley Village, flyball demonstrations by the Frankston Dog Obedience Club and a live animal display from Animals of Oz. Groups including the Australian Animal Protection Society and RSPCA will also be attending.
Sports and recreation activities will run throughout the day as part of Council’s Make Your Move initiative, with the Keysborough Tennis Club opening its courts from 12pm to 2pm.
Visitors are encouraged to bring picnic rugs or chairs and settle in for the afternoon while enjoying food trucks and stalls set up around the reserve.
