Few songs land quite like Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again, and in 2026, The Angels are taking it back on the road to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
The tour will bring them to Geelong’s Eureka Hotel on Friday 14 August and The Corner Hotel in Richmond on Saturday 15 August.
Released in March 1976, the track was the band’s first under The Angels name, following earlier iterations as the Moonshine Jug and String Band and The Keystone Angels. It also marked a shift in sound, moving from their acoustic roots into something louder and more defined. Written by Doc Neeson, Rick Brewster and John Brewster, and produced by Vanda & Young, the song began life as a ballad before being reworked into the version that stuck.
On release, it reached number 58 on the Australian charts and stayed there for 19 weeks. More than a decade later, a live version tied to the album Live Line pushed the song even further into the mainstream, climbing to number 11 in 1988.
That version captured the now famous crowd chant – “no way, get f*cked, f*ck off” – a call and response that grew out of early 1980s blue light discos and eventually became inseparable from the track. Neeson later said the song had become the audience’s, no longer belonging to the band alone.
The group noted the shared experience of hearing the chant ring out at shows, even pointing to Anthony Albanese calling it one of the country’s great singalongs during the 2025 election campaign.
The current lineup features the Brewster brothers alongside Sam and Tom Brewster, with Nick Norton on vocals, continuing a legacy that still connects.
