A new concert series designed specifically for babies is arriving in Melbourne, with Candlelight introducing a tailored experience for families with infants aged 0 to 12 months.
Candlelight Babies will take place at Collingwood Town Hall on 16 May, transforming the historic venue into a calm, candlelit setting where live classical music is adapted for younger ears. The performances are designed with reduced volume levels to suit infants, while still creating an immersive musical experience for both babies and their caregivers.
The concept combines live performance with early childhood development principles, offering a shared environment that encourages sensory engagement and emotional connection through music. Families are able to move freely throughout the session or remain seated, allowing the experience to adapt to each baby’s needs and rhythms.
The program builds on research highlighting the benefits of early exposure to music. Studies have linked music-based play to the development of brain areas associated with language and communication, as well as improvements in early gestural and vocabulary skills.
Candlelight’s signature atmosphere has been carefully reworked for this format, prioritising comfort, safety and accessibility for young families. The result is a flexible, low-pressure environment that sits somewhere between a concert and a developmental play session.
Tickets start from $70, with the experience aimed at parents and caregivers looking for a different kind of cultural outing that also supports early learning and bonding. For more information and bookings click here.
