Australian punk favourites Frenzal Rhomb are hitting the road for a huge national tour celebrating 23 years of their cult album Sans Souci, bringing the band’s chaotic live energy back to venues across the country this August through November.
The 20-date run will see the long-running punk outfit perform tracks from the 2003 record, including fan favourites Bucket Bong, I Went Out With A Hippy And Now I Love Everyone Except For Her, Punisher and the infamous Russell Crowe’s Band.
Victorian fans will be able to catch them on Friday 11 September at the Barwon Heads Hotel and on Saturday 12 September at The Croxton in Thornbury.
Current members Jason “Jay” Whalley, Lindsay “The Doctor” McDougall, Gordon Forman and Michael Dallinger will reunite for the anniversary shows, revisiting an album that remains one of the band’s most recognisable releases.
Announcing the tour online, the band explained why they decided to celebrate the oddly specific milestone.
“So let’s get down to the nitty gritty: Frenzal Rhomb’s Sans Souci is turning 23 – and we’re celebrating!”
“Actually, that’s all nonsense, we just missed the 20th, and the world may not make it until the 25th, so this year we’re celebrating the 23rd anniversary of Sans Souci!”
The group also joked about what fans should expect from the performances.
“And we’re gonna play them all* on the Frenzal Rhomb Sans Souci 23rd Anniversary Tour. A marquee event! And it’s still French for ‘no worries’.”
“*look we may not make it through the whole album, and we probably won’t play it in order. So don’t go getting all weird and complain like that one person did on the Camel tour. We’ll give it all a red hot go though.”
