Chadstone is stepping further into Melbourne’s cultural space this winter, launching a brand new month long festival that will transform the shopping centre after dark with immersive art, dining experiences, music and community events.
Running from Thursday 11 June until Sunday 12 July, Light to Night will take over the entire precinct, encouraging visitors to linger well beyond shopping hours with a program designed around art, food and nightlife.
“Light to Night is a statement of intent – not just in scale, but in ambition,” said Mardi Ashkine, Head of Brand and Marketing at Chadstone.
“We’re creating a festival that feels unmistakably Melbourne, while showcasing Chadstone as a cultural destination in its own right. This program reflects how far the destination has evolved – from fashion and retail into a place for art, food, entertainment and meaningful shared experiences,” she said.
One of the festival’s centrepieces comes from acclaimed Australian artist RONE, who will transform an empty retail tenancy into a haunting suburban weatherboard home installation titled Home. Known for his atmospheric large scale works, including his celebrated Flinders Street Station project, RONE’s latest piece will contrast worn domestic interiors against the polished environment of the shopping centre.

Elsewhere, visitors can experience Through the Looking Glass, a major light sculpture from artist Dean Norton in collaboration with Studio John Fish. Using layered dichroic glass and light projections, the installation will interact directly with Chadstone’s iconic gridshell roof.
Food will also play a major role across the festival. Chadstone is partnering with Melbourne Food & Wine Festival for the World’s Longest Dinner, bringing 400 guests together for a four course feast beneath the iconic gridshell roof, with produce sourced from retailers within The Market Pavilion.
The festival lineup also includes intimate dinners with chefs Julia Busuttil Nishimura and Khanh Ong, live music performances, wellness workshops and after dark social events across the precinct.
