Melbourne’s coffee culture is getting a Gen Z remix, with creative studio The Three Thousands teaming up with long-running local roaster Griffiths Bros to launch two new coffee blends aimed squarely at a younger generation of caffeine drinkers.
The collaboration is a crossover between gaming culture, nightlife and Melbourne’s obsession with a good brew. Known for building games, producing content and running its own merch label, The Three Thousands has now stepped into coffee with two distinct blends inspired by the city itself.
Laneway Blend leans into Melbourne’s daytime cafe culture with notes of milk chocolate, candied nuts and smooth toffee, while After Dark takes a heavier approach with dark chocolate, cocoa and roasted nut flavours designed for late-night drinkers and espresso fans.
The branding pulls heavily from Melbourne’s street culture, borrowing visual inspiration from places like Hosier Lane and the city’s layered graffiti-covered laneways. That same energy carries through into the launch campaign, which includes curated DJ mixes, social-first content and planned activations across Melbourne.
The Three Thousands CEO Joseph Donoghue said the collaboration was a natural extension of the studio’s identity and connection to Melbourne culture.
“Nobody knows coffee like Melbourne, and the city’s culture is at the heart of our studio – we even named ourselves after the postcode – so it was a natural extension,” Joseph said.
Both blends are packaged in sustainable 250g tins and roasted locally through Griffiths Bros, with the project targeting everyone from home baristas and cold brew drinkers to late-night creatives and office coffee obsessives.
