American fast food giant Wendy’s is making its Melbourne debut with a free burger giveaway in one of the city’s most iconic laneways.
Before opening its first permanent Melbourne restaurant, the burger chain is setting up the Wendy’s Walk-Thru in AC/DC Lane on Wednesday 10 June giving locals the chance to score a free burger and drink while getting a taste of what’s to come.
Kicking off from 10am outside Bar Bambi, the pop-up will hand out 300 free Wendy’s Classic Single burgers paired with a Coke on a first come, first served basis. Alongside the food giveaway, visitors can expect custom graffiti art, live DJs and a red-headed Wendy’s host bringing the energy to one of the city’s most iconic laneways.
The Classic Single burger features a quarter-pound fresh Aussie beef patty topped with American-style cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, ketchup and mayo inside a toasted brioche-style bun.
After recently expanding into Brisbane and the Gold Coast, Wendy’s says Melbourne has always been a key part of its Australian plans.
“Melbourne is incredibly important to us, and we knew we had to show up in a way that truly honours the city’s unique culture,” said Corina Black, Chief Marketing Officer, Wendy’s ANZ.
“The Wendy’s Walk-Thru is a fun celebration to thank the community, but it also signals our commitment to shaking up the fast-food experience with hospitality that puts customers front and centre. We have something very exciting up our sleeve for Victoria, and this is just the beginning.”
The location of Wendy’s first Melbourne restaurant is still under wraps, but if this pop-up is anything to go by, the chain is planning a big entrance into the city.
