Melbourne’s most popular winter market is embracing the festive season six months early, with Queen Victoria Market transforming into a Christmas in July wonderland across all five Winter Night Markets this July.
Running every Wednesday from 1 to 29 July, the much-loved market series will swap traditional winter vibes for a full festive makeover, complete with giant walk-in snow globes, live ice sculpting, sparkling decorations and roaming Christmas-themed performers.
The celebration coincides with the Victorian school holidays, with the first three Wednesday events on 1, 8 and 15 July expanding their footprint to accommodate even more visitors looking for a midweek winter outing.
One of the biggest drawcards will be a giant snow globe where visitors can step inside for a snowy photo opportunity in the heart of the city. Nearby, skilled ice sculptors will spend the evening transforming enormous blocks of ice into intricate artworks while illuminated snowflake installations create a magical atmosphere after dark.
String Bean Alley will come alive with an eclectic mix of entertainment throughout the month. Expect towering Christmas tree stilt walkers, giant elves, fire eaters, roller-skating baubles, ice ninjas, Christmas carollers and light-up hula hoop performers weaving through the crowds.
Food remains at the heart of the Winter Night Market experience, and this year’s Christmas-themed edition is leaning heavily into comfort food. Visitors can warm up with bubbling raclette from MELTED, loaded baked potatoes from Spud Pappi, steaming bowls of chowder and soup from The Soup Factory, hot jam doughnuts from the iconic American Doughnut Kitchen and campfire hot chocolates paired with gooey s’mores from Mixed Bag.
To help ward off Melbourne’s winter chill, there will also be mulled wine, spiced chai, hot mocktails, winter cocktails, Warm Butter Beer and Brick Lane’s limited-edition Winter Oatmeal Stout.
