Melbourne will be filled with festive cheer later this year when Elf The Musical makes its Melbourne premiere, becoming the first production to open the brand-new CROWN LIVE theatre.
Running from 27 November to 13 December 2026, the Broadway hit arrives in Victoria following its successful Australian premiere season at the Sydney Opera House in 2024. Tickets go on sale to the general public from 9am on Friday 24 July through Ticketmaster.
Based on the much-loved Christmas film starring Will Ferrell, Elf The Musical follows Buddy, an orphan who accidentally ends up at the North Pole after crawling into Santa’s sack of toys. Raised as one of Santa’s elves, Buddy eventually learns he is human and heads to New York City in search of his birth father, leading to a heartwarming adventure filled with laughter, family and Christmas spirit.
Australian producer John Frost said he’s thrilled to bring the musical back to Australia, and to open the band-new theatre CROWN LIVE with it.
“This new production is bigger, brighter and more magical than ever, with spectacular staging, larger-than-life production numbers and plenty of Christmas surprises,” Frost said.
“It’s a joyful, feel-good show filled with holiday magic – the perfect way to celebrate the Christmas season and experience a large-scale Broadway show,” he said.
Gareth Isaac will return as Buddy after earning rave reviews in the role, with more cast announcements to be revealed in the coming months. The Australian production is directed by Eric Giancola, with choreography by Mitchell Woodcock and music direction by Vicky Jacobs.
Featuring an original score by Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin, plus a book by Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin, the festive favourite has delighted audiences around the world and is set to bring plenty of Christmas magic to Melbourne this summer.
