The magic of going to the movies is coming back to Footscray with Footscray Flix- a four-night celebration of 80s and 90s cinema classics, local stories, DJs and drinks from 27 to 30 August.
The pop-up cinema experience will transform the inner west into a nostalgic movie destination, paying tribute to Footscray’s history as a thriving entertainment hub.
Inspired by the suburb’s former cinemas and open-air gardens, Footscray Flix will feature a custom-built 100-seat boutique cinema designed to recreate the feeling of a classic night at the movies.
Once home to cinemas, picture palaces, dance halls, hotels, cafés and live performance venues, Footscray was often described as the “St Kilda of the north” thanks to its vibrant nightlife and cultural scene.
The program opens with films connected to Melbourne’s west, including The Big Steal, which was filmed in Footscray, and Mad Max, which featured locations across the western suburbs. The lineup also includes cult favourites such as Dazed and Confused, Trainspotting, ET, Alien, Blade Runner, Dirty Dancing and Point Break.
Each screening will be followed by film-inspired DJ sets, while opening night will include free pizza and a drink with every ticket.
Presented with support from programming partner Sun Theatre and Barbarian Brewing, Footscray Flix is part of the broader Footscray Revitalisation program, celebrating local stories while encouraging visitors to rediscover the suburb.
The event is about more than watching classic films. It’s a chance to enjoy a night out, support local hospitality and experience Footscray in a new way.
Tickets are available now. Don’t miss the chance to relive some of cinema’s most memorable moments.
