Melton is about to enter a major construction phase, with more than 750 workers preparing to work around the clock to remove the Coburns and Exford roads level crossings and build the new Melton Station.
The three-week blitz begins on Tuesday evening, 11 August, with buses replacing trains on sections of the Ballarat, Ararat and Maryborough lines from Wednesday 12 August until Monday 31 August.
During the works, crews will finish the new elevated Melton Station and rail bridges over Coburns and Exford roads, while also carrying out track and platform works at nearby Rockbank and Cobblebank stations.
Exford Road will close to vehicles between Staughton Street and Brooklyn Road from 7pm on 11 August until 7am on 31 August. Workers will dismantle the existing boom gates, crane huge concrete beams into place and lower and resurface the road beneath the new rail bridge.
Rockbank Station will also lose up to 70 car spaces temporarily while works take place. When trains return to the Melton Line on 1 September, up to 70 temporary spaces will open west of the existing car park and remain available until the end of the year.
The disruption doesn’t end there, with Coburns Road set to temporarily close at the level crossing from 1am on 6 September until 7am on 24 September for road and footpath reconstruction.
While the works are underway, local Melton cafés, restaurants, retailers and services remain open.
A trader support hub includes an interactive map featuring more than 25 local businesses, making it easier to find somewhere to shop, eat or grab a coffee during the construction period.
