Preston Market is staying open after dark this September, with its first Night Festival bringing food, wine, live music and entertainment to the market for one lively Friday evening.
Taking place from 6pm to 9pm on Friday, 11 September, the festival will see select traders stay open late alongside pop-up food stalls, DJs, live performances and plenty of entertainment for families.
Food is set to be a major drawcard, with visitors able to graze their way through the market. Bobo’s Oyster Bar will serve freshly shucked oysters and bubbles, while Vinnies and Peters Pizza will dish up pizza by the slice.
There will also be burgers and chips from 5TW Burgers, French toasties from Croque N Roll and cocktails from Rustic Bean.
From Nearby will stay open for those wanting to take home a bottle of local wine, with its range sourced exclusively from producers within a 50-60km radius of Preston Market.
Pop-up stalls will add even more options, including paella from Elena’s Paella, Latin American sausages from Rustic Bean, Egyptian food from Egyptian Tummies and chicken wings from Lets Wing It.
Festival favourites including Japanese street food, spiral potato twists and fairy floss will also be available, followed by desserts such as deep-fried ice cream from PHAT ICE CREAM, tiramisu from TiraLab and cinnamon scrolls from Kanella Scrolls.
Art will feature too, with Primavera, presented by Melbourne-based arts collective Yo Soy Collective, showcasing work from 14 local Latin American artists and creatives.
Music will get underway with DJ Jessica Wilson from 3.30pm, followed by DJ collective Bellaqueo at 6pm. DYNAMICS will close out the evening with a live set from 7.45pm.
Younger visitors can enjoy free face painting from Azura’s Oasis, along with glitter, braids, temporary tattoos, caricature sketches and henna art.
The festival will also spill into the Preston Market car park as part of Darebin FUSE Festival. There, Born in a Taxi will present The Cube, a transparent arts space that will come alive after dark with Enlighten, featuring three illuminated angels and interactive performances.
