Courtney Barnett, Party Dozen and KAIIT will headline a free outdoor concert at Fed Square next week as Melbourne independent radio station Triple R celebrates 50 years on air.
The all-ages event, 50 Years of Triple R, will take over the Fed Square Main Stage on Thursday 12 November, bringing a major night of live Australian music to the CBD.
Presented by Fed Square and Triple R, the celebration marks five decades since the community radio station first began broadcasting in 1976. Triple R has become a Melbourne institution, known for championing independent music, supporting emerging Australian artists and giving alternative sounds a place on the airwaves.
Leading the line-up is Melbourne singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett, whose distinctive indie rock songwriting has earned her an international following. Her fourth studio album, Creature of Habit, was released earlier this year.
Sydney experimental duo Party Dozen will bring their unpredictable mix of noise rock, punk, industrial and free jazz to the stage. The pair, comprising saxophonist Kirsty Tickle and drummer Jonathan Boulet, recently released their fifth album, 21 Bum Salute.
Rounding out the line-up is Papua New Guinean-born singer-songwriter KAIIT, whose combination of neo-soul, jazz and hip-hop has earned her recognition across the Australian music scene. Her accolades include a 2019 ARIA Award for Best R&B/Soul Work and a 2025 APRA Award for Most Performed R&B/Soul Work.
Fed Square Director and CEO Katrina Sedgwick said: “For 50 years, Triple R has championed independent music, supported local artists and helped shape Melbourne’s cultural identity,” Sedgwick says. “We’re delighted to celebrate this incredible milestone at Fed Square with free live music events featuring much-loved Australian acts.”
A second anniversary celebration is also planned for Fed Square later in November, with further details yet to be announced.
The concert runs from 6.15pm on Thursday 12 November, with free entry.
