Ballarat is set to welcome a vibrant new art experience with Sunnyside, a large-scale installation series created by award-winning studio The Social Crew. Each year, an internationally renowned artist will take the reins, bringing bold and unexpected visions to life through community collaboration.
For its inaugural year, celebrated UK artist Morag Myerscough will transform the historic Ballarat Mining Exchange with Chasing Sunbeams from 6–23 November 2025. Known for her kaleidoscopic patterns and joyful use of colour, Myerscough will present her first major regional installation in Australia – an uplifting, playful work that invites visitors to engage with art in a dynamic new way.
Beyond the central installation, Sunnyside will spill into laneways and hidden corners with a program of free wanderings, artist talks, creative workshops and ticketed events.
“Ballarat shares a deep historical narrative with many post-industrial cities I’ve worked in places where heritage and creativity intersect. There’s a quiet strength here, a desire for colour and connection that resonates deeply with the values behind my work,” Myerscough says.
Community is at the heart of Myerscough’s practice, with workshops exploring identity and belonging forming part of the program. Free artist talks at Federation University will also offer rare insights into her creative process.
Sunnyside runs 6–23 November 2025. Tickets go on sale 2 September at www.sunnysideart.com.au.
