Kilmore’s beloved Red Lion Hotel has reopened its doors after almost five years, welcoming back locals and visitors with a fresh look and a strong community focus. The Sydney Street landmark, first built in 1856, has undergone a major refurbishment, breathing new life into one of Victoria’s oldest country pubs.
The revival includes the refreshed 1856 beer garden, now dog-friendly and complete with a large screen for summer gatherings, alongside updated dining spaces featuring artwork from the Kilmore Art Society. Venue manager Kim and her team have retained the character of the Red Lion while adding modern touches, creating a cosy yet polished space.
Food remains central to the experience, with Chef Andy leading the kitchen. Pub classics are at the heart of the menu, with the pork belly already emerging as a crowd favourite. A mix of new offerings and returning traditions are also on the cards, including the much-loved “Parma o’Clock” nights, where diners can score a parma for $18.45 if they arrive at 6:45pm.
Beyond dining, the Red Lion is positioning itself as a community hub. Families can expect kids’ movie nights during school holidays, while live music and local events will keep the atmosphere vibrant year-round.
Located just over an hour from Melbourne, Kilmore offers a relaxed country escape, with the Red Lion now firmly back on the map as a destination. Whether it’s a pint by the fireplace in winter or a sunny afternoon in the beer garden, the Red Lion is once again ready to welcome all.
