Way back in 1923, a public design competition resulted in the grand architecture of the Shrine of Remembrance. Now, 100 years later, a spectacular immersive artwork commissioned by the Now or Never Festival is reshaping the gravitas of this monument.
SACRA is a luminous and awe-inspiring work envisioned by Hungarian artist Laszlo Bordos – a pioneer of 3D mapping artistry, whose work has enveloped some of the world’s most renowned buildings. SACRA is set to bring the Shrine into brilliant motion with a series of sculptural illuminations and projections at a scale never before seen in Melbourne.
This work melds sophisticated 3D video mapping with bespoke sound design by Czech composer and musician Ondřej Skála.
SACRA is unveiled every 30 minutes from 6.30pm, with the final show commencing at 10.30pm. It’s on over two nights on 1 and 2 September.
