An augmented reality experience is taking over the Melbourne Museum Plaza from Thursday 22 August as part of the Now or Never festival – allowing you to see a gigantic version of a microscopic organism floating above the city.
Slow Walker by Peder Bjurman is an ephemeral being you can see by pointing the screen of your mobile device towards the sky.
Wander the Plaza ad explore alongside a colony of tardigrades – some of the universe’s most resilient creatures.
Tardigrades are living organisms capable of resisting extreme temperatures of cold and heat. They survive in space, can remain frozen for decades, resist vacuum and even radiation. What threatens them is climate change, as rising temperatures change the environment of their natural habitats.
Slow Walker moves through the public space of the Melbourne Museum Plaza accompanied by a soundtrack. Download the free app PROMENAD and bring your headphones.
You can experience Slow Walker at any time, 24 hours a day, at the Melbourne Museum Plaza – 11 Nicholson Street Carlton – from Thursday 22 August to Saturday 31 August 2024.
