Work on a long planned rebuild of the Australian Grand Prix pit building at Albert Park is about to get underway, with demolition scheduled to begin in late March.
The Victorian government has confirmed construction on the project will officially start on 27 March, marking the first stage of a major redevelopment of the Formula 1 facilities at the park. The existing pit lane building has been in place for more than three decades, having first been built in 1995 when Melbourne began hosting the Australian Grand Prix.

New design images released alongside the announcement show a larger, multi purpose complex that will be used year round while also supporting the Grand Prix each year.
The redeveloped building will feature seven indoor multi purpose sports courts with change rooms, two more than the current facility. Outside of race events, the space is intended to operate as a community sports centre.

During the Grand Prix, the venue will convert into a motorsport facility with 14 team garages, a new VIP hospitality area, a race control centre and a media room designed for international coverage of the event.
The project was first announced in 2024 as part of broader plans to upgrade infrastructure at Albert Park and support Melbourne’s long term hosting of the Formula 1 race
Construction is expected to continue through 2026, with a mix of new and temporary facilities used during the 2027 Grand Prix while work continues.
Melbourne is contracted to host the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park until at least 2037.
