The Angel of Malvern has officially reopened its doors, with the launch of its Public Bar on 24 April, marking the first step in a multi-level hospitality precinct.
Positioned on the corner of Glenferrie and Dandenong Roads, the reopening signals the start of a broader transformation led by Refinery Group in partnership with Kokoda Property. The ground floor Public Bar has been designed as a local-focused venue, with additional concepts set to open across the upper levels in June.

Founder and Managing Director of Refinery Group, Mark Stevens, said, “The Angel has always been part of the fabric of Malvern. This next chapter is about restoring that role, creating a place people return to regularly, not just for occasions, but as part of everyday life, bringing a fresh take and new life to neighbourhood hospitality.”
Public Bar serves as the entry point to the venue, offering a casual, all-day setting built around food, drinks and social gatherings. Upstairs, level one will introduce Flores and Bar Flores, while level two will house Lately, an audio-focused cocktail bar, rounding out a day-to-night offering within the building.

The drinks program, led by Group Operations Manager Liam Burns, focuses on approachable options. Beer is available across taps, tins and bottles, including familiar names and a house Angel Lager developed with Hawkers Brewery. The cocktail list blends classics with signatures, while the wine selection spans local producers and European regions.
Burns said, “We wanted the drinks at the Public Bar to reflect the personality of the space, approachable, lively, and full of character. Collaborating with Hawkers to create the Angel Lager was a chance to craft something unique for the venue, a beer that locals and visitors can come back to time and time again.”

The menu, created by Executive Chef Justin North and Head Chef Josh Rudd, centres on elevated pub classics, alongside grill options and desserts.
Designed by Studio McCue, the space blends heritage features with contemporary finishes, including exposed brick, terrazzo and a double-height atrium.
