Melbourne’s waterfront is set for a winter makeover with the launch of The Street Social, a new community event series transforming Harbour Esplanade into a lively outdoor hub across three weekends from June to September.
Designed to bring people back to Docklands during the colder months, the free series will combine street food, live entertainment, sport screenings and family-friendly activities beside the water.
Kicking things off is Waterfront Sessions on 13 and 14 June, featuring a mix of Melbourne food vendors, DJs, silent disco sessions and live AFL screenings across the waterfront precinct. Organisers are aiming to create a relaxed and social atmosphere where visitors can spend the day grazing, listening to music and exploring the harbour foreshore.
The event series is supported by Development Victoria and forms part of a broader push to activate Docklands through accessible public events and seasonal experiences.
Each weekend in the series will carry a different theme, encouraging visitors to return throughout winter and early spring.
Following Waterfront Sessions, the series continues with Winter Warmer on 22 and 23 August, before wrapping up with September of Sport on 5 and 6 September, which is expected to lean heavily into Melbourne’s sporting culture with live screenings and interactive activities.
While Docklands has long hosted large-scale events and festivals, The Street Social appears focused on creating a more casual neighbourhood-style atmosphere centred around food, entertainment and community connection.
With waterfront views, winter comfort food and live entertainment all packed into one precinct, Docklands could become one of Melbourne’s more unexpected cold-weather hangouts this season.
