Melbourne’s burger scene has scored major international recognition, with two local venues named among the world’s best in the 2026 edition of The World’s 101 Best Burgers list.
The annual global ranking, which evaluates more than 1,500 burgers worldwide, placed Charrd in Melbourne at number 13 and Seoul Tiger 1988 in Melbourne at number 27, putting both firmly inside the top 100 and ahead of dozens of internationally recognised venues.
While Sydney dominated the list overall, Melbourne’s inclusion reinforces the city’s growing reputation as a serious contender in the global burger conversation, with both venues standing out for their distinct takes on the classic format.
Charrd – located on Lygon Street in Brunswick East – earned its high placement thanks to a tightly executed approach that focuses on premium beef, careful preparation and consistency across service. Meanwhile Seoul Tiger 1988 – located at Elizabeth Street in the CBD – brought a bold fusion style that blends Korean flavours with classic burger craftsmanship, giving it a unique edge in a competitive field.
The ranking is compiled by London-based Upper Cut Media House, which evaluates burgers not just on flavour but on the full dining experience, including product quality, patty technique, bun selection, fries, hospitality, consistency and overall concept execution.
Upper Cut Media House says the aim is to recognise venues that push beyond fast food expectations.
“It is the result of product knowledge, sourcing, technique, balance, consistency and hospitality. The best burgers in the world are created by people who understand meat, bread, fire, seasoning, texture and service,” said Upper Cut Media House Co-CEO Ekkehard Knobelspies.
“This ranking is our way of recognising those places that go beyond the ordinary and set a new global standard.”
