A Victorian bakery has once again claimed the title of Australia’s Best Pie, taking out the nation’s top honour at the 2026 Australia’s Best Pie & Pastie Competition on the Gold Coast.
Run by the Baking Association of Australia, the annual competition saw more than 300 bakeries from around the country submit thousands of pies and pasties across 12 categories. Every entry was judged twice, first cold and then hot, with final scores combining both assessments.
The overall winner for 2026 was Country Cob Bakery, which secured the coveted title with its Malaysian Prawn Pie. Packed with prawns in a fragrant Malaysian-style curry infused with coconut milk and spices, the pie impressed judges enough to win both Australia’s Best Seafood Pie and the overall Australia’s Best Pie award.
For the Victorian bakery, it’s a familiar position at the top. Country Cob Bakery has now won the national title five times, having previously taken home the crown in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2023.
Seafood lovers aren’t the only ones with something to celebrate. The bakery also earned Australia’s Best Flavoured Beef Pie for its Cowboy Beef Pie, a hearty creation filled with ground beef in a barbecue-spiced gravy alongside cheese, bacon, mushroom, chilli and mustard.
The wins didn’t stop there. Across the three-day competition, Country Cob Bakery collected an impressive 12 gold medals, further cementing its reputation as one of the country’s most awarded bakeries.
Those keen to sample the award-winning pies can visit the bakery’s original home in Kyneton. But you don’t have to leave Melbourne – Country Cob Bakery also has locations in Springvale and Boronia, making it easy to see what all the fuss is about without heading too far from the city.
Country Cobb wasn’t the only Victorian winner at the competition. Gisborne Bakery and Cafe won the best Chunky Plain Beef Pie category. Shepparton’s North End Bakehouse won the best Vegetarian Pie title. Heaven’s Bakehouse in East Keilor was the winner of the best Gluten Free Pie. And Jo Jo’s Gluten Free Goodies in Kernot won the Best Gluten Free Pastie category.
