One of Melbourne’s best-known rooftop venues is set for a fresh new chapter, with Transit Rooftop Bar at Fed Square undergoing a multi-million dollar redevelopment ahead of reopening this spring.
A favourite destination for more than 20 years, the rooftop venue is being completely reimagined with two new bars, expanded city views and a new all-day dining and late-night experience. The redevelopment marks the first stage of a broader refresh across the precinct, with upgrades to Transport Public Bar and Taxi Kitchen also planned.

Designed by Melbourne-based Studio Y, the transformed rooftop will draw inspiration from the movement and energy of the city below. The new interiors will feature dark timber, rich red tones, metallic finishes, a faceted mirror installation and carefully considered lighting to create a vibrant atmosphere from day into night.
The food offering will be led by Executive Chef and General Manager Tony Twitchett, with a menu centred on elevated yet approachable snacks alongside generous share plates. Behind the bar, internationally acclaimed bartender Matt Linklater has collaborated on a new cocktail list featuring refreshed classics including a Peach Colada and Transit Espresso Martini, as well as more theatrical creations served with smoke, frozen glassware and eye-catching garnishes.

Music will also play a central role in the venue’s relaunch, with a custom-designed Martin Audio sound system and a program curated by WAT artists. Vinyl sets and DJs will soundtrack the space throughout the week.
“This renovation is about building a venue that lives up to its unique setting,” said Twitchett. “We’ve taken the time to get it right, and the collaborators we’ve brought in reflect our bold ambition. We can’t wait to welcome people back to Transit this spring.”
While Transit Rooftop Bar remains closed during the works, Transport Public Bar and Taxi Kitchen will continue operating throughout the redevelopment.
