Australian metal heavyweights Northlane are returning with their seventh studio album, Anemoia, while also confirming their biggest Australian headline tour to date, including a major Melbourne show this November.
The new album arrives on Friday, 30 October, through independent label Immortal Music Group, co-founded by Destroy All Lines’ Chris O’Brien and Northlane guitarist Josh Smith. It follows the band’s chart-topping 2022 release, Obsidian, and explores the idea of longing for a time or place that has never existed.
To celebrate the release, Northlane will embark on a six-date national tour with special guests After The Burial (USA), Cenobia and Above, Below. The run includes a stop at Melbourne’s Festival Hall on Saturday, 7 November, alongside performances in Perth, Adelaide, Sydney, Newcastle and Brisbane.
Fans can access the pre-sale from 11am AEST on Wednesday, 12 August, before general public tickets go on sale at 11am local time on Thursday, 13 August. Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane shows will be open to all ages, while Perth and Newcastle are strictly 18-plus.
Alongside the announcement, the band has released the crushing new single, CUT_it, following the recent arrival of Evian. Frontman Marcus Bridge said the track tackles the emotional and physical toll of burnout.
“CUT_it is about burnout – the feeling of grinding through things when you’re completely spent, mentally and physically. The imagery is deliberately visceral, painting a picture of that exhaustion rather than analysing it,” he said.
Executive produced by Jordan Fish, whose credits include Poppy and Evanescence, Anemoia was inspired by a live set from UK producer Evian Christ and sees the band experimenting with trance influences alongside their trademark heavy sound.
Bridge said the album balances light and shade, adding: “There’s darkness here, but it’s not nihilism – and there’s hope, but it’s not naivety.”
