Melbourne photographers can sharpen their skills, try out the latest cameras and even score a free professional headshot, with Camera House Melbourne CBD marking its first birthday with a week-long celebration of photography.
Running from 24 to 31 August, the Elizabeth Street store is hosting a program of free and low-cost events, including guided photo walks, live-model portrait sessions, camera demonstrations and hands-on workshops featuring Fujifilm, Canon, LUMIX, Sony, Nikon and OM SYSTEM.
The celebrations officially kick off on Tuesday 25 August with free in-store headshots from 11am to 2pm. Visitors can drop in during their lunch break to update their LinkedIn profile, social media or portfolio, with the portraits shot using a Hasselblad X2D II camera.
Thursday 27 August will focus on LUMIX, with a demo day running from 10am to 3pm, including the chance to test the latest cameras and receive free firmware upgrades. Later that afternoon, photographer Matthew Ruderman will lead a Melbourne CBD Portrait Walk from 3.30pm, taking participants through the city for an afternoon of street and portrait photography with a live model.
Friday 28 August is all about Melbourne’s café culture, beginning with a Coffee Photo Walk through the CBD’s laneways from 9.30am, led by Fujifilm Training Specialist Adrian Bloink and including a complimentary coffee.
Fujifilm-authorised technicians will also offer free sensor cleaning throughout the day, while a Food Photography Lunch & Learn at Krimper Café will cover styling and lighting tips. The afternoon continues with a live-model portrait workshop exploring Fujifilm Film Simulations, lighting and posing.
On Saturday 29 August, Melbourne director and cinematographer Joshua Nai will lead a Canon EOS R6 V masterclass focused on creating cinematic content for social media.
There will also be promotions and giveaways running throughout the week, including the chance to win a Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III.
Following a recent refurbishment, Camera House Melbourne CBD has become a creative hub offering photography equipment alongside services including photo printing, film processing, scanning, analogue transfers, workshops and content creation support.
