West Tarneit Station has opened to passengers, giving Melbourne’s growing western suburbs a new public transport link and more options for getting around the area.
The new station includes a 400-space car park, a four-bay bus interchange and secure bicycle storage and hoops, making it easier for passengers to connect to the rail network by car, bus or bike.
Both platforms are fully accessible, with ramps, stairs and a pedestrian underpass providing connections between the platforms.
Bus services have also been expanded alongside the station opening, with more than 1,100 additional weekly services added to the Tarneit bus network.
A new Route 186 service will run between Tarneit Station and West Tarneit Station via Dohertys Road, while Route 182 will operate more frequently and travel via the new station.
Larger trains have also been added to the Wyndham Vale line, increasing capacity by up to 50 per cent during the morning and evening peak periods.
Landscaping work will continue around the station now it is open, with more than 65,000 native trees, plants and grasses set to be planted.
The project will also deliver new seating, walking paths and cycling connections around the station, adding to the growing network of public transport infrastructure across Melbourne’s west.
