Award-winning musical Operation Mincemeat is coming to Melbourne, with the hit show set to premiere at the Comedy Theatre in September 2027 before continuing its Australian tour.
The Melbourne season will mark the Australian debut of the musical, which has become an international theatre hit since beginning life as a 2019 fringe production at London’s 77-seat New Diorama Theatre. The Australian cast will be announced following a search beginning early next year.
Based on the extraordinary true story of a 1943 World War II mission, Operation Mincemeat follows a team of British intelligence officers attempting to deceive the Nazis with an elaborate fake invasion plan.
Their scheme involves planting forged documents on the body of a dead man and convincing German intelligence that the Allies intend to invade Greece rather than Sicily. The result is a story that mixes musical comedy, wartime drama and a classic spy caper.

Jon Thoday, Producer at Avalon, said: “It’s incredibly exciting to be invited to produce Operation Mincemeat in Australia and to be able to bring the show to a whole new audience.”
“From its beginnings in a 77-seat London fringe theatre, the show is now playing simultaneously in the West End and on Broadway, with a world tour underway, so far spanning the UK and North America. Australia will be the fifth production of Operation Mincemeat and the next chapter in its extraordinary journey,” he said.
The production has picked up 24 wins from 66 award nominations, including four Best Musical wins and a 2025 Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Jak Malone.
It has also developed a devoted fanbase known as the “Mincefluencers”, whose social media activity has helped turn the show into a global phenomenon.
The official Australian waitlist is now open, with further tour cities to be announced.
