Opera lovers can enjoy a free taste of one of the world’s most beloved operas when Opera Australia brings its Principal Artists to Emporium Melbourne on Tuesday 10 November.
The lunchtime pop-up performance will take place at Emporium’s Lonsdale Street entrance from 1pm, featuring highlights from the company’s new production of La Bohème, which makes its world premiere at the Regent Theatre this month.
The line-up includes Italian soprano Valeria Sepe, soprano Jane Ede, tenor Iain Henderson and bass David Parkin, offering shoppers the chance to experience opera in the middle of the city without buying a ticket.
There is another incentive to stop by, with Opera Australia offering $70 tickets to its full La Bohème performances to people who attend the free event.
The offer celebrates Opera Australia’s 70th anniversary and includes a limited number of A, B and C Reserve seats for weekday performances at the Regent Theatre. Tickets are available exclusively in person on the day, with a limit of two per person.
Directed by Australian visionary Constantine Costi, the new production transports audiences to a snow-kissed Paris, bringing the opera’s bohemian world to life through painting-inspired staging, hand-painted scenery, detailed sets and beautifully crafted costumes.
The production follows a group of young artists navigating love, friendship and hardship in Paris, with Puccini’s much-loved score at the heart of the story.
The full production runs at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre from 7 to 18 November, giving audiences the chance to experience the romance and tragedy on a grander scale.
No booking is required for the Emporium Melbourne pop-up. Simply turn up at the Lonsdale Street entrance to catch the performance and find out more about the discounted tickets.
