Two new shared-use trails have officially opened at Jells Park in Wheelers Hill, allowing visitors to explore more of this beloved green haven in Melbourne’s south-east. Funded through a $5.9 million investment from the state government, the project delivers a fresh invitation to walk, run or cycle through the park’s scenic landscapes.
The “Lake Trail,” a 2.5-kilometre asphalt loop circling the café and playspaces, is a clear standout. Designed with community input, the trail features solar lighting, drinking fountains, seating, a bike repair station and safety signage – all while offering peaceful views of Jells Lake.
For a deeper dive into nature, the 5-kilometre “Bushland Trail” delivers a more rugged, earthy experience. With gravel paths winding through leafy surrounds, it also includes drinking fountains and thoughtful signage to help guide the way.
“The shared-use trails provide visitors with a wonderful opportunity to get active and explore the outdoors by walking, running or cycling through the park’s many different green spaces,” said Sofia De Lesantis, Parks Victoria’s Regional Director for Melbourne.
Alongside the trails, the government has also replaced two jetties and refreshed the Oaks playground. It’s all part of the broader $24.76 million Asset Regeneration Program – restoring and reimagining the way we connect with nature, right in our own backyard.
