A new kind of cinema experience is arriving in regional Victoria this winter, with White Spark Pictures bringing its acclaimed Virtual Reality Cinema season to Village Cinemas Geelong for the first time.
Running from 1 June until 31 August, the limited season will give audiences the chance to step inside three fully immersive VR films including The Antarctica Experience, The Great Kimberley Wilderness and Beyond the Milky Way.
Rather than simply watching a screen, audiences will wear VR headsets and experience each film in 360 degrees with cinematic surround sound, placing them directly inside frozen Antarctic landscapes, remote Australian wilderness and deep space environments.
The season marks the Victorian premiere of White Spark Pictures’ shared virtual reality cinema format, designed to let audiences experience immersive storytelling together in a communal cinema setting.
White Spark Pictures Founder and Director Briege Whitehead said the experience allows audiences to travel to places many people may never otherwise visit.
“These films give audiences access to go somewhere they may never otherwise get to go. You are not watching Antarctica, the Kimberley or going into space from a distance. You are inside those worlds, fully immersed, living the story. The experience will make you feel as if you are actually there,” Whitehead said.
“We are thrilled to bring this unique experience to Village Cinemas Geelong for its Victorian premiere season. It is immersive, emotional and completely different to a traditional cinema experience, and something families and audiences of all ages can share the magic of together.”
White Spark Pictures has become one of Australia’s leading names in immersive cinema, with both The Antarctica Experience and The Great Kimberley Wilderness ranking among the country’s highest grossing documentary experiences.
Tickets for the Geelong season are limited, with organisers recommending early bookings ahead of the winter school holiday period.
