This Christmas, Melbourne audiences can expect laughter, music and a cheeky twist on a festive classic when Love Actually? The Musical Parody returns to the Athenaeum Theatre from 5 December.
The Off-Broadway hit, from the creators of Friends! The Musical Parody, reimagines the beloved rom-com Love Actually in a riotous stage send-up designed for audiences aged 15 and over.
Following a sold-out Australian premiere season in Melbourne last year, the show is now set for a three-city East Coast tour, opening in Sydney at Darling Quarter Theatre on 27 November, before heading to Brisbane Showgrounds from 11 December.
Promoter Ashley Tickell said the musical is the perfect festive escape. “This show is like Christmas dinner after a few too many champagnes – loud, ridiculous, and way too much fun. Whether you’re obsessed with Love Actually, love to hate it, or just want some musical theatre laughs, Love Actually? The Musical Parody is pure festive,” Tickell said.
“It takes all the bits you secretly giggle at in the movie and dials them up to 100. Grab your mates, a date, or your mum – this is a night out that you’ll actually love! It’s like wrapping yourself in tinsel and good vibes.”
The parody follows nine eccentric couples as they navigate awkward meet-cutes, sweeping gestures and holiday mishaps. With original songs such as ‘He’s The Prime Minister Of Rom Coms’ and ‘Keira Knightley Actually,’ the production lampoons the film’s most memorable moments while celebrating its enduring charm.
Tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster, starting from $69. A local cast is planned for each city, with auditions currently underway.
