The machines are rising again. To mark the 35th anniversary of James Cameron’s genre-defining film, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Belgian electronic visionary Peter Van Hoesen and local laser artist Robin Fox are teaming up to reimagine the sci-fi classic at Arts Centre Melbourne’s Hamer Hall from 26–28 February 2026.
Presented by live cinema collective Hear My Eyes, the event invites audiences to experience T2 like never before – not as a standard screening, but as a full-scale sensory performance where sound and light collide.
The new score won’t replace Brad Fiedel’s iconic original but instead reframes the film’s pulse-pounding themes of technology, consciousness and human resistance through a modern electronic lens.
“This is our 21st original production set to a feature film, and Terminator 2: Judgment Day will mark our 52nd screening since the inception of Hear My Eyes in 2015,” said said Haydn Green, Artistic Director of Hear My Eyes.
“Audiences resonate with this concept of re-contextualising a film with a new score because we curate thought-provoking and powerful cinema that demands your attention,” he said.
Van Hoesen’s re-score will be entirely electronic, built from seismic rhythms, modular synths and abstract soundscapes designed to blur the line between man and machine. For the Melbourne performances, he’ll collaborate with the Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio (MESS) Synthesiser Orchestra, transforming his solo live set into a sprawling ensemble powered by rare vintage instruments.
Robin Fox, meanwhile, will unleash his signature laser choreography – turning Hamer Hall into a shimmering digital cathedral that mirrors the film’s groundbreaking visuals.
“Sound is so essential to the way we receive cinematic images,” said Fox. “The Hear My Eyes project re-visions the films we know and love by changing that key aspect of the sensory experience.”
