It has taken almost five decades, but British jazz funk legends Level 42 are finally heading to Australia for the very first time.
The band will make their long-awaited debut in January 2027, bringing a career-spanning set packed with the songs that helped define the sound of the 1980s. For Australian fans, it marks the first opportunity to see the influential group perform live after years of near misses.
Formed in 1979, Level 42 built a loyal following with a distinctive mix of jazz, funk and sophisticated pop, anchored by the unmistakable slap bass of frontman Mark King. Their breakthrough arrived with 1985 album World Machine, which launched them onto the international stage and remains one of the defining records of the era.
The Australian shows will celebrate that landmark album while also diving into a catalogue filled with fan favourites. Expect classics including Lessons in Love, Something About You, Running in the Family, Hot Water and Love Games, alongside plenty more from a career that has produced 18 UK Top 40 singles and more than 30 million album sales worldwide.
The tour begins in Perth before heading to Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. Melbourne fans can catch the band at the Palais Theatre on Friday 22 January, where their signature blend of slick musicianship, infectious grooves and polished pop is expected to shine in a live setting.
While the lineup has evolved over the decades, Mark King remains at the helm, continuing to lead one of Britain’s most celebrated jazz funk acts through electrifying performances that have kept audiences coming back for more across Europe and beyond.
After waiting nearly 50 years, Australian audiences will finally get the chance to experience one of the UK’s most enduring live bands on local stages.
