Nine sites across the Mornington Peninsula will have new life breathed into them as part of the Morning Peninsula Shire’s new augmented reality public art exhibition, ARTREK.
ARTREK lets viewers experience Portsea and Sorrento in a bygone era, see stunning murals animated with colourful local children’s artwork and the bay code to life with whales and other marine life.
Simply download the app to your smartphone and visit any of the ARTREK sites, scan a QR code and start seeing creative animated artscapes.
Locations include:
Capel Sound ‘Old Wives’ and ‘Dolphin’ murals and Rye ‘Fisherman’ mural
See these contemporary wall murals come to life through 2D animation, including colourful artwork created by our local school children.
Portsea Main Street and Portsea Pier
Watch the hustle and bustle of a bygone era as Portsea’s Main Street and Pier are recreated through sound and animation.
Sorrento Esplanade
Look back in time at the original steam tram and horse-drawn carriages arriving with Melbourne visitors for a day at the beach.
Safety Beach Foreshore and Blairgowrie Beach
See giant animated pinkies (red fish) and enormous humpback whales float through the air at Safety Beach and Blairgowrie respectively; and read about their journey to our shores.
Rosebud Foreshore
Inspired by the Rosebud Kite Festival, now you can fly kites created by local children and watch them soar over the beach.
ARTREK is free and available year-round, making it an ideal interactive activity for families during school holidays or anyone who’s planning a weekend trip to the Peninsula.
This project is funded through Mornington Peninsula Shire’s Arts & Culture public art program.
