A brand new Ferris wheel is set to open in Melbourne next week, promising views of the city.
The new wheel will be at the Polly Woodside Park in South Wharf, next to the Melbourne Convention an Exhibition Centre, where it will be in operation for six months.
The wheel comes to the city from the company Skyline Attractions, who have had a massive Ferris wheel operating on the St Kida Foreshore – the KIIS Eye – all summer (which is set to close this weekend).
On its website, the business promises the $5 million wheel will deliver a “world-class Ferris wheel experience”.
“Soaring 35 metres into the sky, you’ll get unparalleled views of the city and Yarra River like never before,” the website reads.
“Skyline’s gondolas offer the best views in the world, through modern clear perspex glass.”
The attraction will also bring a mini golf course called Straya Mania to the site. Participants can compete with their family and friends over a 9 hole course where they have to avoid iconic Australian fauna.
The new Skyline Melbourne wheel will be operating while the controversial Southern Star Observation Wheel at Docklands remains shuttered. The Polly Woodside Park is one of several locations that have been mooted as a potential location for the Southern Star Wheel to be relocated to, should that be a viable option for its future. Although it is looking increasingly likely it will be sold for parts or scrap.
Tickets for Skyline Melbourne will cost $17 for adults and $8 for children, with the option to add on a game of mini golf.
