After successful runs in Edinburgh, London, and New York, Zinnie Harris’ play Macbeth (An Undoing) is coming to Australia for the first time at Malthouse Theatre – opening on Friday 5 July.
In this reimagining of Shakespeare’s Scottish Play, we witness the untold side of the story as seen through Lady Macbeth’s eyes. It’s a gripping tale of ambition, manipulation, and the desire to challenge societal norms.
Starring Bojana Novakovic (Love Me) and Johnny Carr (Five Bedrooms), the play delves into the 11th century with a raw and haunting portrayal of Lady Macbeth’s quest for power and change.
Under the direction of Malthouse Theatre’s Artistic Director Matthew Lutton, the stage is set for a grand showdown, amidst a world steeped in superstition and the supernatural. Witness Lady Macbeth’s journey to claim her rightful place, even if it means leaving a trail of blood in her wake.
Zinnie Harris, the Scottish playwright behind this adaptation, is celebrated for her feminist takes on classic theatre works, including reimagined versions of Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, Webster’s The Duchess of Malfi, and Aeschylus’ The Oresteia. With numerous awards to her name, Harris’ plays have been staged and lauded across Europe and beyond.
Macbeth (An Undoing) will run at Malthouse Theatre from 5-25 July. Tickets are available here.
