A Carnegie cafe has gone viral on social media after photos of its low prices were shared on Reddit.
Cafe Perri is located opposite the Carnegie Railway Station, and has prices like $2.50 coffees, toast for $3, muffins for $3.50 and slices of cake for $4.50. As anyone who has been near a cafe lately can tell you, these prices are extremely low amid the current cost of living crisis.
The cafe also has cheap pizzas and pasta for sale with small pizzas and calzonis from $5.00 and pasta from $11.00
According to news.com.au, the cafe owner Jimmy Perri moved to the Carnegie location from the CBD in September 2023 and has not increased his prices since. He’s reported as saying he thinks he has some of the cheapest prices in Melbourne, if not Australia.
Redditors have speculated that perhaps the owner owns the building outright, not having to pay rent or mortgage, which would help keep prices low – something that the owner wouldn’t confirm or deny.
