A prawn laksa pie from Bellarine bakery Rolling Pin Cakes and Pies has been awarded the best pie award for 2024 at the Baking Association of Australia’s Baking Industry Trade Show – chosen from a field of 2000 pies entered by 367 bakeries from across Australia.
The prawn and laksa pie combines laksa paste and coconut milk with prawns, capsicum and green beans.
This is the third time in four years the bakery has taken out the top spot in the competition. They’ve previously been successful with a surf’n’turf pie in 2021, and a mushroom and truffle pie in 2022.
According to the Geelong Advertiser, the General Manager of Rolling Pin Cakes and Pies, Nathan Williams, hasn’t even tasted some of his award-winning creations because he doesn’t eat mushrooms or prawns.
“I somehow managed to nail the flavours,” he told the newspaper.
The bakery also took home the prize for the best vegetarian paste for the fourth time, for their wholemeal vegetarian pastie.
Rolling Pin Cakes and Pies, has stores in Ocean Grove, Queenscliff, Leopold and Geelong,
