Fans of The Lord of the Rings are in for a treat as The Lord of the Rings – A Musical Tale gears up for its 2025 Australian tour. Based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved epic, this stage production will bring the legendary journey to life in Sydney, Perth, and Melbourne.
The all-star Australian cast has just been revealed, featuring some of the country’s most talented musical theatre performers and actor-musicians.
Laurence Boxhall will take on the iconic role of Gollum, Andrew Broadbent as Elrond, and Rarmian Newton as Frodo Baggins. The Fellowship also includes Hannah Buckley as Pippin, Wern Mak as Samwise Gamgee, and Rob Mallett as Strider. Jemma Rix will bring the ethereal Galadriel to life, while Ian Stenlake will portray the sinister Saruman. With a full cast of 32, this production promises a grand and immersive experience.
This theatrical adaptation, created under license from Middle-earth Enterprises, will make its Australian debut at Sydney’s State Theatre on January 7, before touring Perth’s Crown Theatre in March and Melbourne’s Comedy Theatre in April.

The Lord of the Rings – A Musical Tale has already wowed audiences in the UK and the US, with The Guardian calling it “The Greatest Show on Middle-earth” and WhatsOnStage praising it as something Tolkien himself would have been proud of.
Audiences will journey through Middle-earth alongside Hobbits, Elves, and Men as Frodo Baggins embarks on his perilous quest to destroy the One Ring. With a dynamic live score and a captivating cast, this production celebrates the themes of community, courage, and camaraderie at the heart of Tolkien’s timeless tale.
