The 2024 Myer Christmas Windows have been revealed – with this year’s theme featuring Australia’s cherished Wildlife Warriors, the Irwin Family. While Sunday’s official unveiling ceremony was cancelled at the last minute because of threats from protesters, the windows are available for everyone to see at the flagship Bourke Street store.
Since 1956, the Myer Christmas Windows have brought joy to millions, and this year’s collaboration with the Irwin family takes the tradition to thrilling new heights.
Titled An Irwin’s Christmas Story, the six-part display is guided by Ace the Eagle, exploring a magical tale blending festive wonder with the beauty of the Australian outback.
Ace’s journey begins with a spark of curiosity as he begins a quest that takes him through breathtaking landscapes and encounters with fascinating animals. Along the way, lifelike figures of Terri, Robert and Bindi Irwin join Ace, showcasing the family’s passion for wildlife conservation. From playful tiger cubs to majestic elephants, each scene is rich with vibrant details, bringing visitors face-to-face with the magic of nature.
Narrated by Robert and Bindi Irwin, Ace’s story carries a heartfelt message about the importance of protecting animals and their habitats. Visitors are immersed in a poetic and imaginative world, where every animal is “protected, safe, and free.”
Behind the magic is Creative Director John Kerr, now in his 31st year leading Myer’s Christmas Windows. Together with Stage ONE Productions, Kerr has spent more than 12 months crafting this spectacular experience.
The displays feature 50 animated actions, 30 unique animal figures, and custom-built animatronics designed to mimic natural movements. From a treehouse bursting with colorful birds to an ocean crossing filled with wonder, the attention to detail is extraordinary.
Adding to the festivities is an exclusive activation on Level 6 in Myer Melbourne’s Mural Hall: Christmas at the Crocoseum. This special production, created by Terrapin Theatre Company, draws inspiration from the iconic Wildlife Warrior Show at Australia Zoo.
Terri Irwin said she was thrilled to see the spirit of her family and Australia zoo come to life in this year’s Myer Christmas Windows.
“This collaboration is a wonderful opportunity to share our passion for wildlife with the community and inspire a sense of wonder during the festive season,” she said.
“Through this captivating display, we hope to deepen people’s connection to the wonder of wildlife and wild places, while emphasising the importance of conservation. We can’t wait for everyone to experience the joy and excitement of Christmas with Australia Zoo!”
