Great news for movie fans in Melbourne’s southeast: —an IMAX cinema is coming to Fountain Gate by the end of 2025.
Set to open at Village Cinemas Fountain Gate in Narre Warren, it will be Melbourne’s second IMAX screen after the iconic one at the Melbourne Museum. This is great news for those who want the big-screen experience without trekking into the city.
While we don’t yet know the exact size of the new screen, IMAX is promising an immersive setup with crystal-clear visuals and surround sound that shakes your seat. It’ll be the latest in a rollout of IMAX theatres across Australia, with around 40 planned over the next few years.
The new cinema will be part of the huge Westfield shopping complex, making it an easy night out: dinner, a blockbuster, and maybe some shopping, all in one spot. With this addition, Fountain Gate is set to become a must-visit destination for moviegoers in the outer suburbs.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to bring IMAX to Fountain Gate,” said Village Cinemas CEO Clark Kirby.
“With demand for premium cinema at an all-time high, IMAX represents the next evolution of Village Cinemas’ blockbuster experience . Village Cinemas has deep roots in Australian cinema and our mission has always been to deliver world-class experiences to our guests. We can’t wait to deliver this incredible new cinema to audiences in Melbourne’s south-east.”
Opening just in time for summer’s biggest releases, IMAX at Fountain Gate aligns with a stellar line-up, including:
- Wicked: For Good – The dazzling sequel to Wicked, brought to life with stunning visuals and sound tailor-made for IMAX
- Avatar: Fire and Ash – James Cameron’s long-awaited sequel returns to Pandora with breathtaking scale and cutting-edge effects
- The Odyssey – Christopher Nolan’s new epic delivers a powerful, visually striking journey crafted for the IMAX experience
