Melbourne has once again been crowned Australia’s top student city, holding onto its spot in the latest global rankings released by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), and coming in at an impressive fifth globally. The rankings highlight Melbourne’s education opportunities, affordability, cultural diversity and enviable lifestyle.
This year, Melbourne topped the global Student Mix indicator, with more than 330,000 international enrolments from around 175 countries choosing to study in Victoria. The QS Best Student Cities index scores cities based on quality of life, university standards, affordability, and diversity and Melbourne clearly ticks every box.
“Melbourne remains the nation’s best student city because we offer the best education, the best lifestyle and a welcoming and inclusive community to live in,” said Acting Minister for Economic Growth and Jobs Jaclyn Symes.
Home to eight public universities—including two in the world’s top 50: the University of Melbourne and Monash University, Victoria continues to lead the country in higher education. The QS index also named Melbourne the best Australian city for employment and work experience opportunities.
“We are backing our students, TAFEs and universities because they drive jobs, the economy and boost Victoria’s global education reputation,” added Minister for Skills and TAFE Gayle Tierney.
