A popular market celebrating local makers and independent brands will return to Melbourne next month, marking a decade of events in the city.
The Makers and Shakers Market will take over the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 April, bringing together stalls selling locally made goods, food and handmade products from across Australia.
Visitors can expect a curated mix of homewares, sustainable fashion, art, jewellery and specialty food, alongside creative workshops and activities for children.
Founder Emma Morris said the event has grown significantly since it first launched ten years ago.
“When we started the market ten years ago, our goal was simply to create a beautiful curated space for independent makers,” she said.
“Over time, supporting Australian manufacturing and locally made goods became a much stronger focus. It’s incredibly meaningful to now celebrate a decade of markets with a community that genuinely values buying local.”
Food will also be a major part of the weekend. Among the traders set to appear are Rocco’s Bologna Discoteca serving hot Italian sandwiches, baked goods from Cobb Lane and tacos from Taco Truck.
Visitors with a sweet tooth can pick up gelato from Hareruya Pantry, while a market bar run by Pizzini Wines will offer drinks for those looking to relax while browsing the stalls.
Live vinyl DJ sets will run throughout the event, adding to the laid back market atmosphere inside the historic exhibition hall.
Families are also catered for, with a Mini Makers and Shakers kids’ market zone designed for younger visitors. Children will be able to play shop in their own small market space and make Mother’s Day cards as part of the activities.
The market has become known for showcasing independent Australian makers and small businesses, with many returning each year to launch new products or connect directly with customers
